The State Antiquities Collection in Munich is an ancient art collection consisting of two art houses. The house of the Glyptothek is located on the north side and the antique collection on the south side of Königsplatz. While the Glyptothek exhibits sculptures, the collection of antiquities shows everyday objects and objects from the Etruscan, Greek and Roman eras. With its art collection, it is one of the world's leading of its kind. In its pursuit to preserve cultural heritage, the museum attaches particular importance to education and mediation. In order to ensure this in the long term, a balanced appearance between classicism and modernity is indispensable. The Greek stylistic epoch is characterized by its abstract use of basic geometric forms. In the interplay of geometric shapes and abstractions, a new appearance is created.

The Greeks had a preference for geometrical basic shapes.

Abstraction as a stylistic device

The pictograms are composed of circles, elongated beams and rectangular shapes. In the context, these forms form an abstract representation of their actual appearance. In order to be able to communicate faster to the viewer, the abstraction of the character symbols is more subtle.

Image style

The pronounced art collection strongly sets the museum apart from its competition, which is why the focus of the concept is also on the exhibits. With the help of the enlarged representation of the art objects, an additional exciting visual layer is created. The viewer should have the feeling of being close to the art objects. The aim is to focus on the exhibits. The typographic level only serves as a supporting framework.
